Leaking roof, water damage repaired for free at Huntsville VFW Post

The Gentry Isom VFW Post 2702 building in Huntsville has had issues for years that the organization just could not afford to fix on their own. Now, a local veteran-owned company is stepping in to make things right.

Bobby Lee, senior vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, said the building was built in 1954. The group wants people to visit and have a good time, but "you can't have them walking into a building that's run down."

VFW Post 2702 is located off Memorial Parkway and Sparkman Drive, where it serves more than 500 active members and as a community gathering spot, but for eight years, they have not had the resources to make the necessary repairs, including fixing the leaking roof.

“It costs money to run things," Lee said. "We’ve done our best to hold down those costs."

That's where C&K Roofing and owner Jim Gentry comes in. Gentry has decided to fix the roof, the water-damaged walls and replace the carpet — all free of charge.

“I look at it is as taking care of my own," Gentry told WAAY 31 Wednesday.

A retired member of the Air Force, he said it’s all "a matter of all military members knowing you help out your brothers."
