Most Common Reasons For Roof Leaks
4 of the Most Common Culprits of Roof Leaks
It won’t be long and winter will be here. Are you ready? Is your roof ready? Here are four tips to ensure that you roof is indeed ready for the impending cold weather season:
1. Do You Have Missing or Cracked Shingles?
Take a look at your roof. Do you see any shingles missing? Do you see any that have been damaged? If so, then you need a roofer to come out and repair that damage before winter arrives. Otherwise, the cold weather will only result in more serious damage and more costly repairs down the road.
2. Do You Have Any Leaks?
Unless it’s raining, you don’t know if you have leaks or not, right? Not true. Although rain is helpful, you just need a flashlight. Grab one and head on up to your attic. Look up at the roof and see if you see nay water stains or any outside light coming through. If you do, then call a professional immediately for a full inspection and repair.
3. Have You Cleaned Your Gutters Lately?
When your gutters are clogged by leaves, tree limbs and other debris, it won’t allow the rainwater to go anywhere. Instead, it will turn all the debris wet, which increases the weight that your gutters are trying to hold up. This can cause your gutters to become loose or collapse. You want to make sure that they are clean and clear of debris before winter arrives to ensure that snow, ice and water can successfully leave your roof.
This is something that you can do on your own if you don’t want to spend the money on a professional. However, a professional can probably get the job done quicker, safe and more efficiently.
4.Have You Trimmed Your Tree Limbs?
As previously mentioned, tree limbs can fall on your roof and make their way into your gutter system. This isn’t good. To help prevent that from happening, you can grab a pair of tree trimmers and start cutting away any long branches that are hanging over your roof. Otherwise, the weight of the snow in the winter may put too much stress on the limbs and cause them to break off and crash onto your roof.
The best thing you can do for your roof to ensure it is ready for the upcoming winter is to call a professional roofing company for a full blown examination.
